Tina Benevides is an Assistant Professor in the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. She is also completing her PhD at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, Canada. Tina was also selected to be an Apple Distinguished Educator, class of 2013. Benevides is researching the effectiveness of using iPads in elementary classrooms. The idea behind her research is that iPad technology has the potential to increase student engagement and motivation for students in reading and other literacies. The research, which began at one Northern Ontario School in 2010, has expanded to include over 200 elementary students. Benevides also uses her findings to assist pre-service Educators in the Schulich School of Education to understand how technology can be integrated effectively into their future classrooms.
